Islands, mountains, dangerous cities, giants and the World Cup

Islands, mountains, dangerous cities, giants and the World Cup

How’s that for a title, eh? We’ll get to those things, but first, some big news – drumroll please! I accepted a job offer in San Diego. Yes, I’m getting a big boy job again, can you believe it? I almost lasted three years. Almost! So what do I do to celebrate? Go for another last minute big trip, of course. And it’s a whopper: the Republic of California, Columbia, Equador and Galapagos, Peru and Machu Picchu, Chile and Easter Island and the World Cup quarterfinal in Rio. All using my stash of frequent flier miles (ok, more like a […]

Tulsa Oktoberfest

Tulsa Oktoberfest

“You know, they say Tulsa has the second largest Oktoberfest in the world” was a revelation convened to me by the manager of a local CVS store a few weeks ago. I have been buying a lot of ice cream there lately and by now the folks up front know that I travel quite a bit. So, once I told them that I was debating a last minute beer run to Europe for my third Oktoberfest in Munich, he proceeded to reassure me that I won’t miss much if I just stick around in Tulsa. Well, I did end up […]

Discovering the River Valley in Western Arkansas

Discovering the River Valley in Western Arkansas

My first experience with Arkansas was anything but exciting. A few years ago I travelled through Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi before crossing eastern Arkansas from Memphis to Little Rock. I remember there was literally nothing in-between and even Little Rock didn’t have much to see besides Bill Clinton’s library. Needless to say, I wasn’t really eager to go back to the “Natural State”. That is until I got to experience western Arkansas this past weekend – now I cannot wait to go back! As you can tell, this area is anything but flat. In fact, it truly does have everything […]
