Funny Fridays: In-Flight Cabin Safety Videos

Funny Fridays: In-Flight Cabin Safety Videos

I love to fly. And I fly a lot. A WHOLE LOT – 647 flights to date, to be exact. That is also lot of, usually dull, preflight safety videos and announcements. Sure, not all of those flights were on the airlines, and, in some cases, the equipment on board was… um… non-standard: Still, there are only so many ways to fasten a seatbelt (well, actually, just one) so some airlines recognize that the more fun they can make the preflight safety briefing, the more people will actually pay attention to it. Having witnessed some of these myself, I can […]

Barcelona Airport Tower Tour

Barcelona Airport Tower Tour

Oh, Barcelona. The city of contrasts. The second largest in Spain and the capital of Catalunya. Las Ramblas. Plaza Espana. Gaudi. Beaches. People. And the most exciting part? The airport, of course! Well, maybe not so much, but after doing almost all of the above last year and then again with my parents, I remembered listening to Jesus on Airplane Geeks podcast talking about air traffic control and flying in Spain. And he was a controller at Barcelona airport. So, I shot a quick email to Max to see if they can put me in touch with Jesus for a […]

Case of the Mondays #22: Barcelona Airport

Case of the Mondays #22: Barcelona Airport

Today’s Case of the Mondays post is a bit different. As usual, you still get an amazing panoramic view of a beautiful place to take your mind of whatever is making you go crazy today. And it combines the sea and the mountains in one shot. But beyond that, it also has airplanes! Yey, right?! Aviation geeks rejoice! I give you a panoramic view of Barcelona El Prat airport during its early afternoon departure “rush”. Note that it is a bit larger than the usual panoramas I post (2.6MB) so it might take just slightly longer to load after you […]

So, when I found out that there is Boeing […]

Spring Break in New York City

Spring Break in New York City

Where do you go for the spring break? How about New York? I decided to take my family on a short vacation to New York City since my mom and my sister have never been there. I was there back in 1995 for a day and same for my dad. We booked our hotel in Teterboro [just across the river in New Jersey] since I figured we would have more changes having a ferry flight to go there. On Tuesday evening I checked the ferries and a Falcon 2000 was scheduled to go there from Columbus the next day. It is one […]

Flying on a Boeing Business Jet

Flying on a Boeing Business Jet

Long story short, on Saturday we found out that there is a ferry flight on a Boeing Business Jet from Cleveland to DC and there is a ferry to Cleveland AND a ferry back from DC. So, it didn’t take long for me and Jay to make our plans for Sunday. In the morning we jumped on a Hawker 800XP, one of our midsidsize jets, to fly from Columbus to Cleveland. online loan lenders only We had a few hours to kill in Cleveland before our scheduled departure so we headed downtown to grab a very nice buffalo burger and came back to […]

Riding on the King [of Business Jets]

Riding on the King [of Business Jets]

Today we had a bunch of caterers come to Columbus and check out what Netjets is all about and where we are going. After a fun day full of activities, we were talking with couple of girls from Rudy’s (our caterer in New York) and decided to see if there is a ferry flight going to New York to take them back home. There was one indeed and it was nothing less than a Gulfstreem IV – the cream of the crop of business jets. Todd, Brian, Emily and myself decided to go along on the ride. This way we could […]

Lunch in New York City

Lunch in New York City

This has to be the ultimate lunch trip. We flew on a private jet to New York, went to a nice Cuban restaurant in the heart of Manhattan and flew back home on another jet. All that in less than eight hours. But first things first. I was going to jump on a training flight on one of our newest jets, a Citation Sovereign, but when we showed up in the morning, it was still in pieces and was not going anywhere until the evening at the earliest. On the way out I ran into Lay, one of the guys […]

Flightmemory 2012

Flightmemory 2012

If you are following any other travel blogs (or any other blogs for that matter), you are probably tired of all the “year in review” posts. So I did not want to do that; instead, I decided to look back at all my flying this year. After all, with 97 flights in one year, there are a few stories that pop into my mind. Interestingly, all besides one of those flights were commercial flights this year – unlike some of the past years where I racked up a bunch of flights either flying on my own, flight testing avionics systems […]

How I [almost] flew First Class on United

How I [almost] flew First Class on United

After a three-month long stint in Ukraine, it was time to escape the weather and head back to the States. Flying standby, I had the best chance of catching a flight out of Frankfurt as United has almost a dozen daily flights from there to Newark, Chicago, Washington, Houston, and even San Francisco. I was hoping that at least one of them would have an open seat for me, so I got to Frankfurt on Saturday after a quick half-day stop in Istanbul. Being too late in the day to catch any of the flights to US and having a […]
